PRIVACY POLICY
Introduction
This Privacy Policy applies to personal information collected by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (South Australia) Incorporated, also known as RSPCA (SA), 172 Morphett Street, Adelaide, South Australia.
The Society understands the importance of privacy to its members, donors, sponsors and customers. The Privacy Policy outlines the context in which personal information is collected and how this personal information is used, disclosed, protected and held. In doing so, the Society is bound by the National Privacy Principles contained in the Privacy Act 1988.
This Privacy Policy is intended to cover the collection, use and disclosure of personal information collected for marketing purposes and is therefore not intended to cover the personal information collected by the Society for the purposes of enforcement of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1985 or the Dog and Cat Management Act 1995.
The Privacy Policy does not cover the personal information collected by the Society about its employees and volunteer workers. Staff and volunteers have access to this information on request to the Executive Director.
The RSPCA (SA) is constantly seeking to improve the services we provide to our members, donors, sponsors and customers and therefore the Society's Privacy Policy will be periodically revised.
Information Collection and Use
The Society (including its Animal Shelters and Branches) will collect personally identifiable information in the following circumstances:
- On becoming a member of the Society;
- On becoming a sponsor of animals held by the Society, or a sponsor of facilities owned by the Society, or a sponsor of services conducted by the Society;
- On making a donation to the Society;
- On becoming a participant of the Society's Bequest Program
- On participating in any event, program or activity conducted for the benefit of the Society
- On supplying goods and services to the Society
The personal information collected by the Society will include names, addresses, telephone numbers (private and business) and e-mail addresses. With the permission of the member, donor or customer, the Society will collect details of credit accounts in order to transact business with that person.
The Society will use the personal information for the following purposes:
- To provide information about events, programs and activities being undertaken by the Society;
- To raise funds for the Society's animal welfare and animal protection services;
- To raise funds for the maintenance and development of the Society's Animal Shelters.
Information and Disclosure
The Society may disclose personal information held by it to other organisations or businesses which might act on behalf of the RSPCA (SA) to run events, programs and activities for the Society, or to raise funds for the Society's use.
The Society will not disclose personal information to other organisations or businesses if the Society receives advice in writing from persons whose information is held that they do not wish it to be disclosed.
Notwithstanding the above, the Society will share personal information with third parties in the following circumstances:
- The Society needs to provide personal information to third parties to provide a product or service requested;
- If the Society is legally required to do so;
- If otherwise required or permitted by the Privacy Act 1988
Access to the Alteration of Personal Information
The Society will permit a person to have access to the personal information held by the Society about them in the following manner;
- The request must be in writing;
- The Society will respond in writing to requests for access within twenty eight (28) days of receipt of the request.
If a person wishes the Society to alter the personal information held about them, the requested alterations must be provided in writing. The Society will make the requested alterations within twenty eight (28) days of receipt of the request, provided that it is satisfied that the requested alterations are accurate.
Complaints
If a person considers that the Society has breached this Policy, they should provide details of the alleged breach to the Society in writing.
The Society will respond to such a complaint within twenty eight (28) days of its receipt.
